I'm writing a plugin, similar to the "transmission" official plugin, for starting and stopping amule-daemon.

It has been added to the official xbmc "frodo" repository for linux platforms. If you want to try it on a different platform (i.e.: mac osx, or xbmc "gotham", you can download it here; let me know if it works!
